Response to "Or Else"

I really enjoyed Nelson's story and connected with the character David more than I initially expected to. When I began reading, I expected David's story to be about the fall of a womanizing jerk, but the story went in a very different direction. I felt sorry for David's constant yearning to belong to a family that he was never really a part of, even when he was younger. (Did the story every say how David met the Harts in the first place? Perhaps I just missed it...) I was also slightly annoyed with David, as well, and maybe Danielle's ability to quickly connect to Violet served as the wake-up call he needed. It certainly doesn't look too promising, though - by the end, even David can't tell if he's lying to himself or not.
